Increasing Website Revenue

Increasing website revenue is what every webmaster craves for. It is all good to have a highly popular website but if the website or business is not earning any revenue then it is no good at all.

If we take Facebook.com as an example the first thing most will tell you is that they have an account, each and every day you will either hear the brand name, see someone using it, or perhaps even use it yourself.

It’s a great brand and a great idea to socialise with one another but their revenue, considering the reported traffic they receive, is poor. Floating did not help but that’s another matter entirely.

Their strict rulings on advertisements and bidding system is one that simply does not work and advertisers have caught onto that fact.

In many ways it is good to see Facebook as a way on how not to make the most of your traffic. Placing small advertisements in poor locations is not the way forward if you are looking to increase website revenue, but here are a few options that may work for you.

1) Placement.

Most networks now suggest the better positions to place your advertisements. Click through rates are constantly changing and it’s good that you move with the times yourself. The most obvious one is the LDB position right above the fold.

It looks good but the first thing the majority of users do is scroll down as soon as they hit a page. Look to move the banner further down the page to gain more impressions and raise your CTR.

2) Negotiate.

Easy said than done, particularly with one of the largest ad networks who are quite simply uncontactable for most. Ad networks buy and sell traffic on a daily basis and much like stocks and shares, prices change.

The next time your ad network gets in touch, ask them to increase your CPC/CPM/CPA rates and give them more exposure in exchange for that.

3) Spread your risk.

Having one advertising network on your website is great for administrative purposes but if they go out of business or they decide to pull their ads off your site, you’ll be left on one leg.

Speak to other ad networks and see if you can arrange some decent exposure for them too. It will mean more admin work but in most cases you will see each of the parties fighting each other for better positions, you will also discover that having at least three networks on board is a good insurance policy.

4) Fill Rate.

It’s always a good idea to make sure that your advertisements are being viewed by every one of your readers. This will include users from far off lands, some, you will not have heard of. Be sure to find out whether your ad networks cover those areas and if so, at what rates will they be paying you.

5) Private Media Buys.

If you are looking to deal in a private media buy then make sure it works out well when compared to the ad networks prices. If your ad network is already increasing website revenue then there is no need to switch to a media buy if it will work out less than you are currently earning.

It’s even a good idea to provide your potential advertiser with a report to show them that you can only accept a certain amount for a specific position.
